GaGa Goes Grey

August 3rd, 2010

Gaga’s usually setting trends, but on Vanity Fair’s September cover she’s right in line with the already established young-people-wearing-gray-hair trend. But she still looks smoking. She’s also got an interesting theory about sex and why she’s afraid of having it.

Who’s Kate Lanphear? What You Know, and May Not Know About the Bedazzing Fashionista

August 3rd, 2010

Though notoriously press-shy, Elle style director Kate Lanphear has a huge cult following — at least a handful of blogs exist for no other reason than to document her edgy, punky style and ever-changing platinum hair. The Lanphear Look, if you will, elevates the age-old jeans/tees/platforms/motorcycle jacket combo into something insanely fashion-forward — and nigh impossible to emulate, though many a fashionista has tried. Lanphear, of course, doesn’t see it this way. She describes herself as the “biggest fashion geek” — she has an insatiable appetite for all things sartorial and spends her weekends poring over old magazines, books, and photographs. The daughter of federal judges, she is originally from Virginia, but her fashion career began in Australia, where she took any and every fashion-related job she could find, working late nights as a bartender to pay the rent. Eventually she scored work at Australian Vogue and Australian Harper’s Bazaar; eight years later, she returned to the States and took a job at American Harper’s Bazaar. It wasn’t long before her work caught the attention of Elle, who made her an offer she couldn’t refuse: senior fashion editor. Then finally, in 2008, Lanphear was tapped for the plum gig of style director — a job she never knew existed, let alone thought she might get. “I often feel like I have to pinch myself,” she says humbly. “I can’t believe it.”

Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, Lily Donaldson, Magdalena Frackowiak, Martha Streck and Anna Gushina backstage Fendi Fall 2008 r-t-w, in Milan, February 21, 2008. You will notice some bad girl attitude, here? (or they’re with bad girls in mind). I love how Natasha Poly creates her leggy look! Pairing her black bomber leather jacket with over-the-knee Chanel Fall 2006 leather patent boots and Chanel bag. The grey and black color continue to dominate Lara Stone, Lily Donaldson, Magdalena Frackowiak’s outfit. Here i find a luxury accessorie - Magdalena Frackowiak’s slouchy Miu Miu Patchwork Tote in black leather.

Clinton Wedding

August 2nd, 2010

Once an awkward First Daughter, Chelsea Clinton rocked an ivory strapless Vera Wang gown at her wedding yesterday, showing off toned arms and a lovely smile. The dress featured a draped bodice with a swirling silk skirt and train, which Clinton complemented with a bouquet of white roses. Her cute-as-hell husband, Marc Mezvinsky, wore a custom wool-mohair-blend tuxedo, shirt, tie, and shoes by Burberry. (Christopher Bailey was even at the wedding, looking quite suave himself.) For the reception, Chelsea changed into an ivory silk tulle Grecian dress with a crisscross back and a black grosgrain belt, according to the Times, and her bridesmaids wore strapless Vera Wang gowns in lavender chiffon. Wang hasn’t commented on the wedding dress, but the Times speculates that the gown cost $20,000. So much ado has been made about Chelsea’s wedding, in spite of, or perhaps because of the fact that she’s always seemed relatively normal for being the scion of a political dynasty. (This is a girl who regularly steals Wi-Fi at Starbucks and took a job at an investment firm.) Despite once being publicly mocked for her looks by John McCain, this girl survived her parents’ crazy careers, stayed largely out of the spotlight, found herself a nice Jewish boy, and worked her ass off at spinning classes for weeks leading up to the wedding. It’s no wonder everyone has been rooting for her — and judging by the critics’ reactions, she didn’t disappoint. Click ahead to read the almost unanimously positive reviews, with the obvious exception of one Cathy Horyn.

GaGa for Vanity

August 2nd, 2010

The first big cover of this year’s September fashion titles is out! Lady Gaga, naked as usual, poses virtually colorless for British Vanity Fair, wearing only a fancy cat collar and the same long gray hair she had at this year’s Met Gala. Shot by Nick Knight, this may be her best cover yet: She looks quite pretty all washed out without firearms coming out of her boobs or her tush hanging out. Of course she may be saving that for inside the magazine, where she undoubtedly provides as much fake meaning to the cover headline “Why is she?” as possible, even though the answer is simply “attention.” How do you feel about this cover

Anna Dello Russo in Pursuit of a Household Name

July 26th, 2010

Anna Dello Russo’s forthcoming fragrance has a name! And an ad! The scent is called Beyond, and, Russo writes on her blog, it will come out around Christmas, contain notes of vanilla and almond, and come in a golden shoe, like a Cinderella slipper or fairy dream object. Sounds yummy. Ladies if you know ADR well, they you must also know that, buying her perfume will make you smell and feel like a million bucks.

Prada Fall 2010

Prada Fall 2010

Cleavage made a, um, big comeback on the Fall runways, with hourglass silhouettes front and center. Nina Ricci’s combo of bustier and curve-hugging, below-the-knee pencil skirt had a retro 1950’s twist, as did the made-for-Christina Hendricks dresses at Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana. At Prada, meanwhile, Lara Stone and co. made the case that curvy catwalkers should be more than just a novelty.

Erin Wasson X RVCA Rumors Cleared

July 26th, 2010

The rumors that Erin Wasson’s RVCA line is no longer have finally been addressed by both parties. According to RVCA founder and creative director Pat Tenore: “The current rumors are completely incorrect and misleading statements. RVCA and Erin have not parted ways indefinitely. Erin is part of the RVCA family, and we hope to work with her on new collaborations in the near future.” Though Wasson’s contract with the brand technically expires at the end of the year, there will be no Spring 2011 Erin Wasson x RVCA collection. Added RVCA marketing director Brian Garofalow: “[The] agreement was for a time term, expiring 12/31/10. The term expires in between the development and go-to-market processes for [Spring 2011], so both parties opted not to develop the season as part of our current agreement.”
